Unless we become blind...
Unless we become blind, we cannot be human..
We see complexion of the skin, curl or straightness of the hair – we identify region, we see race and we like, we dislike, we embrace, we discriminate them. Our eyes can clearly differentiate the colours: the blacks, the blondes and the brownies. They cannot understand that the brightest diamond and the darkest charcoal share the same carbon.
Unless we become blind, we cannot be human..
We see the marks on foreheads, we see the beards and burkha, we see the cross on chests, we see turbans on heads – we forget they are humans too; we label them, we judge them, we hate them even if we are seeing them for the first time. Our eyes can see saffron, green and white. They cannot understand a thing of saffron first absorbs all the other colours in light and then emits only saffron and so are green, white and all others.
Unless we become blind, we cannot be human..
We see strong bodies, we see moustache and we call them male, stronger sex without knowing their inner fears. On the other hand, we see delicate bodies, those curves and bulges and we declare them female, the weaker sex, without understanding their inner strength – we forget they are humans too. Our eyes can see only shapes and sizes. They can’t sense kindness and wisdom.
Unless we become blind, we cannot be human..
We see those sweaty faces, those dusty bodies, those wrinkled-torn untidy clothes and we call them the poor, the untouchable, the backward without even trying to find out who they are. We also see those gleamy faces, shiny clothing, glittering dirty yellow metal on their body and we stand up, respect, speak softly of them and we call them the rich and the honourable without even knowing what they are. Our eyes can only see the wrinkles and designs. They cannot see the character hidden somewhere inside.
Unless we become blind, we cannot be human..
We see the list of degrees listed under one’s name, we see the marks on the cards, we see the medals sitting in the showcase and the certificates neatly framed and hanging on the walls and we label them intelligent, genius, ‘educated’ without knowing their irrational thoughts. We also see people with oily hands, greased clothing, soiled bodies and we don’t care how sensitive, cultured and empathetic they might be. Our eyes can see only those name plates with degrees, grease on clothing and dirt on bodies. They cannot see what makes a man a human.
Dear friend,
Unless we become blind, we keep labelling. judging, discriminating, grouping and we keep our minds narrowing down. Become blindly blind to the colours, regions, religions, geographies, races and even genders. Become so blind that you can sense only a human being in front of you.
Unless we become blind, we cannot get the true vision.
