The Girl Who Wants to Live on the Sun

“In the entire Universe, if you are given the choice, where would you want to live? And with whom?” – once a teacher asked the students in the class.

After thinking for a minute, one of the children stood up and said:

‘Ma’am, I want to live on the Sun, with my father.”

“Sun? leaving all the eight planets that are special in their own way, why did you choose the burning, blazing Sun?” asked the teacher.

“Ma’am, you had once explained that all these eight planets rotate on their own axis. I hate this rotation.”

“But why?”

“Because of this rotation, these days and nights occur and the time runs. My dad says that he should go to office on time. Sometimes he goes early morning of the day before I wake up. He reaches late night after I sleep. When I ask him to tell a story or play some game with me, he says that he should complete some work on time. He seldom has time for me.”

The teacher was slowly getting the child’s point. She continued listening, not knowing whether to be happy for child’s imagination or to be sad for being deprived of her dad’s company.

The child continued:

“Isn’t it wise to choose to live on the Sun who does not revolve around anyone, nor rotates on any axis? There are no days and no nights on the Sun. There is no time on the Sun. My dad cannot know when to start the work and when to complete it. He will be with me, always.”

The teacher’s eyes were wet, but as all the great teachers do, she tried to provoke child’s thinking and asked:

“Are you not going to burn to ashes on the Sun?”

“Even if we are burnt, I would be happy that I would be with my dad. Isn’t that better than being away without getting time on this ROTATING Earth? But ma’am, I don’t worry, my dad does not let me burn. He is my hero.“

The teacher was speechless about innocence, trust and imagination of the child. Love is love.
