There should be no arguments and cross-examinations in the courts. There should be no provision for seeking forgiveness from the President of the country. There should not be any imprisonment and delay. They should be straightaway hanged to death, in the most populated place of the town, announcing in advance and gathering people. It should be telecast on all the TV channels. Those brutes must be executed mercilessly!

Yes! I am talking about the demon act called rape and the punishments to be given to the beasts called rapists. We can generally give a second thought about anything in the world. We can try to find the reasons and listen to the justifications for any other crime but not for this inhuman act.

A 5-year-old girl child, a 60-year old woman, a 17-year old college going girl – in the corners of the lonely houses, in the remote roads of the city and village outskirts - in the sleepy afternoons, in the yawning dusks - a total stranger, a neighbour-wolf disguised as a cow, a brotherly relative, a hypocrite friend, an unscrupulous boss or colleague - amid the helpless screaming, in the painful moaning, with the uncontrolled heartbeats, in the fearful sweats, in the pleading tears..!

Why doesn’t SHE appear like a little neighbour girl who comes to play at their house? Or the daughter of their brother or sister who takes a ride sitting on the fuel tank of their bike? Why doesn’t SHE appear like their mother or a granny who fed them making them sit on HER lap telling stories in their childhood? Why doesn’t SHE look like the same small girl who grew up in front of them and going to college now? Why do they become so uncivilized? inhuman? Insensitive? Why don’t they see from the eye of their heart?

It is not just about the rape, which is at extremes. Hundreds and thousands of girls and women suffer and undergo some unexplainable discomfort, pain and absurdity every day. A college girl at a bus stop, a lady in a train, a woman at her workplace, a school going girl on the way home – hear some irritating comments, senses a frustrating bad touch, undergoes dirty stalking after her – What does SHE do?

In very few cases, the girl and the woman fight back, take the help of the family or others. In the majority of the cases SHE silently tolerates as she doesn’t know how to react, or she doesn’t know others will react if she shares or reacts, she doesn’t get enough courage to raise her voice, or she thinks people (sometimes including her family) will start looking at her absurdly. So, almost every girl, every woman has such experience hidden in her. And the Romeo in those scoundrels feel motivated, encouraged or boosted.

These kinds of men are a big failure in life. They usually suffer from a high level of inferiority complex or extreme superiority complex. They never build a healthy relationship with anyone. They are not important in anyone’s life. They are detached from their families emotionally. They suffer from an identity crisis. They lack emotional bonding with anyone. They are dead above the waist.

On the other hand, what happens to HER who undergoes all this? There are such Road Romeos on one end and on the other end, there is a strict father, an angry brother, a helpless pious mother, or an unpredictable husband. She thinks that her family may react erratically and may just ignore and suppress her problem thinking about what would society think if spoken publicly. SHE just suffers. SHE remains silent. That’s when the world of men scares her.

Why do men do all this? Does it make them happy? Does it make them feel proud? Useful? Respected? Powerful? No, none of these. It is just their false way of boosting their ego.

An uncivilized brute touches a girl or a lady in a crowded bus. She feels irritated and doesn’t react for her own reasons. He takes that in some other way. His ego gets boosted up for this ‘achievement’ and he continues. An insensitive man in some parties or offices cracks some weird jokes, speaks something awkward with a girl or a woman thinking that SHE would be impressed. Will that win her heart? Does he take her into confidence? Will it impress her? Does he want to build a relationship? Nothing runs in his mind. He just wants to boost up his ego at that moment. It’s not the roar of a courageous lion that wants to hunt; it’s just a barking of a stray dog that pretends it can make a sound. It just creates irritation and embarrassment in her, nothing else.

What most of the men basically fail to understand is, unlike in animals, the woman is not just a different gender with just some physical differences, she is almost a different species altogether with many psychological differences compared to the man. What creates fear in men may make her sad, what excites men may create fear in her, what is negligible to him may give her immense happiness. The way men and women think, feel, sense, and express or react are very different.

All the evils, mistakes, errors, blunders, crimes – whatever we call them as – have only two ways to handle: one, with love and another, by creating fear.

The approach of love should be mostly proactive. We need to sensitize from the beginning, from childhood. Boys should be made sensitive towards women around them, their mother, sister, classmates. They should be continuously made to think standing in others' boots. Their conscience must be constantly sharpened to pinch them whenever they think or do something bad. How do you feel when your mother is hungry? How do you feel if your sister is beaten? How do you feel if someone scolds or teases your classmate? Same are the other women around you.

Love gives permanent solutions, but it doesn’t happen overnight. But it should be started at some point. One who plants a tree can expect only his next generation to enjoy the fruits. But we can’t be hungry until then, especially in such cases of evil. So, the fear factor should be in place. There should be no arguments and cross-examinations in the courts.
